Curtis joins Spencer Hayes Group following several years in sales within the engineering industry, a role he balanced alongside studying Business Management at the University of York, where he graduated with a 2:1!
While new to the insurance sector, Curtis brings with him a strong commercial background, excellent interpersonal skills, and a clear ambition to build a long-term career in the industry under the guidance of George, our Head of Protection.
His professional journey began in e-commerce, selling engineering supplies across the UK and Europe. He later moved into a more traditional sales environment within the same sector. Although successful, Curtis realised that these roles didn’t align with his long-term goals, and he sought out a career that offered more purpose, growth, and stability.
Curtis believes insurance is largely a recession proof industry so there is job security in economic downturns. It is also a career which prioritises helping people navigate their way through insurance which can be for a lot of people a minefield. He has chosen to specialise in protection, an area he feels best matches his strengths, and holds the R05 Protection qualification.
He is currently working towards his Certificate in Insurance and is due to sit his final exam (IF2) shortly. Once complete, Curtis plans to progress through the Level 4 Diploma and ultimately achieve the Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance. He is passionate about continually developing his technical knowledge to better serve Spencer Hayes’ clients.
Earlier in his career, Curtis also worked in hospitality at a coffee shop and wedding venue operated by a charity. It was here that he first developed key customer service and leadership skills, regularly stepping into a managerial role when required, often coordinating events with up to 200 guests.
Originally from Bolton, Curtis now lives in Water, Rossendale with his brother, having relocated in April 2024. Outside of work, he enjoys football and athletics. He played for both his college and university football teams and has represented clubs at various levels while growing up in Bolton. Now, his focus is on long-distance running and cross-country, and he is a member of Rossendale Harriers. Curtis has ambitions to compete in major European races, including the Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia marathons.
He loves keeping in close contact with friends, when he has the time.
Curtis has been on holidays with friends and family when he was younger. He has most recently been to Prague with a few friends, which he said was a good experience. The pilsner urquell they serve there as their standard lager is great. He is currently looking at going to Ibiza summer 2026 staying just outside of San Antonio bay.
Welcome Curtis, we’re so excited to see what you bring to Spencer Hayes!
